Get rid of that stupid puppy in Search (XP)
That cartoon puppy that appears whenever you do a search in XP has always got on my nerves, it made me feel like I was running "XP Kids version". This is really obvious but I just found it by accident:
Open search. Right click on the puppy (or other character) Choose "Turn off animated character" I feel like an idiot for not finding it sooner.

you only needed to ask... it is one of the first things i do after installing, along with view details instead of pictures, show hidden files and change the association for .nfo files to notepad.

i never truned it off and they have been breeding in the back ground now theres hundreds of the blighters
must remember to do that with nfo files instead of having to run nfo viewer |
